At the world-famous ship welcome facility 'Willkomm-Höft' at the Wedeler Elbe bank ships from all over the world are being welcomed from sunrise to sunset daily since 1952.

Welcome to Hamburg
Every ship over 500 GRT, which arrives in the Hamburg port is being welcomed or said good bye via the loudspeaker facility of the Schulauer Fährhaus. For that the on duty captain in his cabin uses the enormous national hymn archive. 284 cassettes are at the ready to honour every individual ship in the respective national language. A suitable ceremony for every ship. This happens at least 50 to 60 times a day. A flag greeting by 'dipping' of the Hamburg flag complement the ritual.

Functioning nostalgia
The address and hymns of the individual countries still come from a magnetic tape of the ready cassettes. Or from the computer. Because after 46 years of nostalgia technique has also come to Willkomm Höft. But not everyone is happy with the 'high-tech' apparatus. And so every on duty captain can decide whether the music is being played analogue or digital. Especially elaborate is in any case the welcome in the respective language if the language is unusual like Ukrainian, Russian or Malay.

By the way the welcome words and melodies can be heard very well outside on the jetty or the coffee garden of the Schulauer Fährhaus. Thus a visit to Willkomm-Höft is ideal for a rest and can be connected with a visit to the ship-in-bottle and shell museum, which is also situated inside the Schulauer Fährhaus.
